At the meeting of EPCEM at Oxford in 1990 the committee had approved the change of name to EURASEM and had agreed that the 12th conference should be held in Vienna in 2002, with Professor H. P. Rossmanith as chairman. Unfortunately, and to great disappointment, this intention could not be fulfilled. Instead, the conference was moved back to 2004 with Italy as the host country.
